QUEST: 1,000 Woodcuts Update
May 2001 - 110 completed
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Time flies, doesn't it? I was talking to a new friend and seemingly
one
weekend is bumper to bumper to the next. Just a couple more fairs
for this
spring and then a long awaited rest. Only thing planned for the
summer is an
etching workshop of sorts with a dear dear friend.
Upcoming exhibits listed here, do come by if you can.

New Stuff:
A "serious" engraving for an exchange among printmakers:

The vessels series continues to inspire me, even before the ink is
dry on
one I am thinking of the next:

A surrealistic woodpeople print:

And of course a bunch of little ones, I'm enjoying doing these so
much I
have begun a series of even smaller prints. Finally got around to
making an
exclusive gallery for mini-prints:

Thoughts and Ramblings
WARNING! Hardly any of what follows is serious or coherent, for
that matter.
I have been so busy lately that I had to sharpen up my organizational
skills. I found a couple of general principles and some strategies
to help
myself get through these hectic days.
The principles are:
-Simplify
-Hmmm...I forgot the other one already, I guess that's just one
principle
then, simpler that way.
Thing is, I tend to over-think, over-complicate, and over-pack my
poor
trailer on the way to an art fair. Real life events often tend to
turn out
simpler than plans.
Here are some strategies:
-Anything you do today won't need to get done tomorrow.
-Anything you do today won't occupy space in the brain tomorrow,
leaving
room for more creative thinking about what else needs to be done.
-Any brain space that gets freed up by doing things is soon filled
with new
things to be done, so the second strategy doesn't really work.
-If something needs to be done right away, do it right away, otherwise
go to
the next strategy.
-Make a list on a piece of paper, prioritizing the most important
items by
placing them at the top.
-Lose the list, if you can't remember something off the top of your
head it
probably didn't need to get done right away. Electronic lists on
virtual
Post-It notes are great because you can just delete them and they
don't pile
up in the recycle bin (the real one, not the virtual one).
-There are an infinite number of uses for bungee cords, cable ties,
quick-grip clamps and sand bags. Don't ask what that was about,
let's just
say it's been windy out in the art festival scene.
Let's go back to simplify, shall we?
I'm off to an art fair in California to peddle some prints, when
I get back
I will print more.

Quote(s) of the Day
"The world is all gates, all opportunities, strings of
tension waiting to be struck."
--Ralph Waldo Emerson
(won't that quote make a nice woodcut?)
"Stay humble--stay hungry."
--Hakeem Olajuwan
Thanks for listening and health to all,
