Image: One of my favorite things while traveling
is when I drive through a forested mountain and then descend into the open
lands of the Utah or Nevada deserts. Despite the beauty of the pine forests
and sinuous mountain roads, the rugged sandstone formations and naked hills
of the desert landscape fill me with a sense of freedom. Miles of roads
with nothing (and nowhere!) to hide, the world is right again when driving
back toward the open desert.
