Woa! A very close-close-up of the fibers of the paper. This quote from Dave Bull: "You can get a pretty good view of the texture of the 'hosho' paper. The fibres are clearly visible, as is the slight 'flattening' effect in places - from the paper being dried face down on smooth wooden boards. Much modern paper is dried quickly on hot iron plates, and is much smoother. Just what this 'cooking' process does to the molecules of the fibres though is another question... There is also a 'filler' present - a smooth white powdery substance that gives teh paper body. In the old days this was fine rice flour, in modern times 'kaolin' is used. Which was used on this print I cannot tell..." |
