Orca

24" x 36"

"This image was inspired by a week long kayaking trip in teh Pacific Northwest a few years back. We didn't actually see any Orcas from the kayak, just a minky whale, pacific white-sided dolphins (that look like small Orcas) and sea otters. The day after we finished the kayaking trip we went out in a small zodiac in search of Orcas and saw a nice pod of four. A mom and her three sons. And we were able to identify the pod from our whale book and knew their names and ages. The eighteen year old wen under our little zodiac and surfaced close enough to reach out and touch after echolocation off the boat. It was the most incredible experience. So the composition came from that photo but I liked the kayak shape better than the zodiac shape."
